On this week’s episode of the Wake the F*** Up podcast we are unpacking the scary and sometimes-taboo topic of death, and the often misunderstood aspects of the grieving process in our culture. This week’s guest is an expert on grief and trauma, Janet Kahoe. Jan is a Licensed Professional Counselor, and Alix’s longtime therapist. Jan has worked as a psychotherapist for over 35 years, after receiving her License in Counseling in 1988. Jan also started a Grief Center in 1997, offering grief therapy to individuals, families and groups. She is now in private practice where she works with individuals, couples, and families regarding grief, anxiety, and depression. And she is a certified A-I-T practitioner. Which stands for Advanced Integrative Therapy. On this podcast episode Jan tells the story of why she decided to open a grief center. Jan also shares her experiences from working as a Bereavement counselor in Hospice, as well as doing Rehabilitation Counseling with the Physically Disabled. And together with Alix and Jami, Jan walks through what she has personally found to be the most misunderstood aspects of the grieving process.
